Making kilts
properly since
2012

We started with a small shop, a genuine love of Scottish heritage and one straightforward rule: if it is going to have our name on it, it has to be made properly. That rule has not changed.

Where it all began

A small shop with a big idea

Back in 2012 we opened a small kilt shop in Scotland. Not a big plan, no grand vision document, nothing like that. Just a genuine frustration that the kilts available to most people were either poor quality, poorly fitted, or both. We thought we could do better. Turns out we were right.

From the very first order we made everything custom. Your measurements, your tartan, your length. Not the nearest size we had in stock. The kilt built around you. It took longer. It cost more to produce. Customers noticed the difference and they told other people. That was the only marketing we had for years and it was enough.

Twelve years later we are still doing it the same way. The scale is bigger. The team is bigger. The number of tartans we carry has grown from a couple of dozen to over a thousand. The method has not changed at all.

We didn't set out to build the biggest kilt company. We set out to build kilts properly. Those two things turned out not to be in conflict.

How we work

The craft behind every kilt

A kilt is not a complicated garment in concept. Eight yards of cloth, pleated at the back, flat at the front, fastened at the waist. The complications come from doing it right. The pleating has to be even. The sett has to run correctly through the pleats. The fall has to sit at the right point on the knee. The straps have to be positioned properly for the fit to work.

We work with experienced kiltmakers who know these things the way a carpenter knows timber. Every kilt is hand-pleated and hand-stitched. We do not cut corners because the corners matter. The difference between a kilt that fits and moves properly and one that does not is entirely in the details.

The fabrics we use come from Scottish mills that have been supplying kiltmakers for generations. Heavy wool for traditional kilts. Durable poly-viscose for kilts that need to travel well. Canvas-backed denim and leather for utility and fashion kilts. We pick the right fabric for what the kilt is going to be used for, not whatever is cheapest.

Milestones

Twelve years, one way of working

We have grown steadily since 2012 without ever changing the thing that made it work in the first place. Every year has taught us something. Most of what it has taught us is that the basics — good materials, proper fit, honest communication — are not things you improve on by replacing them with something cleverer.

The milestones we are proud of are not the ones that involve growth metrics. They are the ones where we got better at the craft.

Scotland Clothes quality promise

What we stand for

Three things we never compromise on

🎯

Fit above everything

A kilt that does not fit properly is a kilt that sits in a wardrobe. Every decision we make about how we build our garments starts with one question: will this fit the person who ordered it? If the answer is no, we do not do it that way.

🏔

Materials that last

Lightweight alternatives look fine in product photos. After a year of real use the difference is obvious. We use the same quality fabrics that Scottish mills have supplied to kiltmakers for generations.

🤝

Honesty over marketing

We will not tell you something is in stock if it is not. We will not promise a delivery date we cannot meet. Twelve years of this has taught us that customers value straight answers more than polished ones.
